Yasmin's Story: Confidence Can Start With a Cuppa

Yasmin came to us some months ago, having just fled an abusive partner with her 3-year-old daughter. When she first visited our hub, she was fearful and unsure of her future. She was visibly nervous, so we did what we always do – offered her a cuppa. As we placed the warm coffee into her hands, we saw her shaky hands steady, and she relaxed just a little.

Yasmin talked us through her story of horror, and we saw her back straighten just a little when we reassured her she could do it. These simple, regular coffee meetings became a cornerstone of her journey to regain confidence and stability.

Each week, we checked in on Yasmin, offering her not just coffee but also a supportive ear and a safe space to share her fears and navigate the new complexities in her life. Daunting forms became a little bit easier with some help, and getting her parenting plan in order didn’t make her quite so queasy. We provided guidance on everything from understanding legal documents to accessing community resources, and we stood by her side as she faced each new challenge.

As the weeks passed, Yasmin's confidence began to grow. The warmth and consistency of our coffee gatherings helped her build the strength to set firm boundaries for her ex-partner's visits to see their daughter. She learned to stand up to him without wavering, reclaiming control over her life.

With her newfound confidence, Yasmin took a bold step forward by enrolling in university. She now looks forward to what the future holds, with the year promising new opportunities and a brighter path ahead.

All we did was provide a network of support and a simple cup of coffee for Yasmin to find her own voice – she did the rest!

Help us bring warmth and hope to more women like Yasmin. Donate today and be part of the change – one cup at a time.
