Holly's Story: Coffee & Connection

Holly, a vibrant New Zealander with an infectious personality and a great sense of humor, faced an incredibly tough time during the COVID-19 pandemic. Losing her job was a devastating blow, and as a Kiwi living abroad, she wasn't entitled to any unemployment benefits. With jobs scarce and her savings dwindling, Holly was on the brink of homelessness.

One day, Holly found herself at one of our connection hubs. She was offered a warm cup of coffee, a small gesture that provided much-needed comfort and connection. As she sat with her cuppa, she told us felt a sense of solace and security, which is something she hadn't experienced in a long time.

Over that simple cup of coffee, Holly began to share her story with our volunteers. They listened attentively, offered support, and together, they brainstormed solutions. Holly mentioned she had a car, and our team saw an opportunity. We helped her register as an Uber driver, a job that would allow her to work flexible hours around the demands of her household and teenage boys.

That warm cuppa was the first step in Holly's journey to regain stability and independence. With the income from driving Uber, Holly could manage her household and provide for her family. Our support didn’t end there; we continued to check in with Holly, providing guidance on managing her finances, accessing local resources, and navigating the challenges of her new job.

At 4 Voices, we believe that sometimes, change starts with a simple cup of coffee. Holly's story is a testament to the power of connection and the impact of compassionate support.

Your $4.00 donation can help us provide these moments of connection and life-changing support to more women like Holly.
